Idaho Record Pike Caught!

In keeping with some of my past traditions on Blog Cabin Angler, thought I would let everyone know that Idaho has a new state record Northern Pike caught and landed and verified just recently up in Northern Idaho. (Naturally, a new state record Northern Pike would come from Northern Idaho!)

Anyway, congratulation to Kim on his great fish and thanks for sharing with the rest of us Non-record anglers. Here is what I know:

Twin Lakes, ID--Idaho has a new state record fish.
On Friday, Kim Fleming and his friend went trout fishing on Twin Lakes, just north of Rathdrum. To his surprise he ended up reeling in a record-size Northern Pike. The fish measured at 40 lbs. 2 oz. Fleming spent the afternoon at Idaho Fish and Game verifying his catch. He said he spent more than ten minutes struggling with the fish before he finally pulled it in.
Bob Ringer of Post Falls held the previous record of 39 lbs. 13 oz. since 2007.

Now, how about some picture proof material:

More please:

Landed on a trout fishing trip, no less! Great Job, Kim!

Fishing In Heaven? Well, .........

So as most of my readers all know, Ol' Eagle Eyes is an avid angler. Well, the other day Ol' Eagle Eyes contacted a "Medium" and asked if there really was good fishing up in Heaven. The "Medium" said that Ol' Eagle Eyes request was a big order and that he would check and get back with Ol' Eagle Eyes in a few days.

Well, after waiting several days, Ol' Eagle Eyes got a call from the "Medium". Well, Ol' Eagle Eyes anticipating what he was about to hear, asked "What did you find out?"

Well, the "Medium" said to Ol' Eagle Eyes, "I have got some good news and some bad news for you,"

Well, Ol' Eagle Eyes in full anticipation said "Okay, what is the good news?"

Well, there is a beautiful lake in Heaven that was just full of some big, and, very wise Trout. The "Medium" continued, Ol' Eagle Eyes you have been granted 24 - hour a day access to this beautiful lake. Unbelievably, Ol' Eagle Eyes, you will have your own personal fishing guide on the great lake in Heaven."

Well, Ol' Eagle Eyes was so excited to hear this news!

"Well, then what is the bad news?" asked Ol' Eagle Eyes nervously.

The "Medium" responded, "Well, your supposed to meet your Guide in Heaven down by the lake at 10:30 A.M. this coming Sunday morning."

Note: Just a "Passing" Tee Hee for all my blogger friends!

Blog Update!

Well, it is about time I get off my posterior and recognize I have my blog to take care of.  Summer is almost gone and before you know it, my favorite time of the year will be here.  You know, fall fishing and football is in the air!

This has been the longest period of time I have taken away from my blog responsibilities since I started my blogging path.  I have had several different blogs over the years, but, am anchored with my current theme and blog as the one I have settled on after all this time.  With this version, this is blog  post #137.  Not that numbers make a difference, but I for one, didn't think I was ever going to get to post #137.

It has been a summer for me of special times with my grandchildren, busy times at work with lots of accompanying stress, some minor health issues, and sadly, not enough time for fishing!  Not wanting to bore anyone with my personal family activities, or belabor all the stress of work, I decided no one would really want to hear all the reasons I have for not going fishing enough and why those darn fish needed a vacation from me anyway!

However, I must return to my blog with thanks for all those who have left interesting and supportive comments over the past month or so on my previous posts.  I have read every one of them and took each to heart.  Without my reader base, I would have felt very dis-connected from fishing and the outdoors this summer.  Also, I see that I am up to (80) followers and I can't tell you how exciting that is for me that many of you have taken the time to join me here on Blog Cabin Angler.  I sincerely appreciate all my BlogBuddies.

Lastly, I have been somewhat negligent in reading all my fellow bloggers writings over the past month.  I realize I have a lot of reading to catch up on.  There are many interesting titles I see when I check my blog feeds.  Time for me to get back to posting comments on all the blogs I read also.  Commenting makes each blog a community of its own!

Bluegill - Another Reason To Love 'Em

God I love Bluegill fishing.  Just something about those tough little buggers on light tackle that is just too much fun!  Great sport, pugnacious, good to eat, and last but not least, readily available in warm water ponds to anglers of all ages and stages.

I came across this piece from the local papers and thought it was very interesting.  God bless the Bluegill!

A team of bluegill fish has been charged with helping control the Twin Falls County mosquito population, in what has become the latest chapter of animal-on-animal warfare in southern Idaho.  The Twin Falls Pest Abatement District teamed up with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game this month to carry out the first phase of the plan - scooping up 200 fish from Dierkes Lake.  The team released the fish in ponds throughout the south-central Idaho county last week, hoping the bluegills will gobble up mosquito larvae in areas where the pests are most prevalent and near people.

Mosquitoes, along with their annoying bites, can carry West Nile virus and other diseases.  While other states have long used mosquito fish (Gambusia affinis or Gambusia holbrooki) to control mosquito populations, the Twin Falls County abatement district was concerned this particular type of fish would compete with native minnows, district manager Kirk Tubbs said.

"Bluegills eat larvae, and they're native," Tubbs told the Times-News.  Tubbs believes his team is the first to test this method of mosquito control in Idaho, although using one animal to control another animal population is nothing new to the state.  In April, state wildlife managers pitted badgers and skunks against pelicans blamed for eating too many trout on a southeastern Idaho island in the Blackfoot Reservoir.  While the state was somewhat disappointed with the results of that endeavor after two of the three badgers bailed and one of the two skunks disappeared, Tubbs is hopeful that fish will prove successful at keeping the county's burgeoning mosquito population down.  And if it doesn't work, the district is only out a couple hundred dollars on a plan that took only a day to implement.

"It's an experiment," Tubbs said. "But if they do their job, we'll be catching fewer mosquitoes."

Am I Tired Or Am I Just Getting Lazy?

Over the last couple of weeks, this question has crossed my mind several times.  I have taken several naps while trying to ponder on the answer.  I really feel like something is up!  I have ignored my blog and my responsibilities to keep up.    I haven't posted anything worthwhile for a few weeks now.  What's up with that?  Having a blog that has followers requires posting that keeps your readers interested or they won't be there.  I ponder some more before I take another nap.

I mean it is Mid-July.  Prime fishing time in the trout waters that surround me.  Heck, there is even some pond fishing for Bass and Bluegill and Perch.  What's the matter with me anyway?  Am I tried or am I just getting lazy?

Well, I did have an early summer case of the flu.  That took me out of commission for a few days.  Maybe I am suffering from a flu hangover!  Work has been very stressful say the least, maybe that combined with the flu hangover has my mind in a scramble.  Am I tired or am I just getting lazy?

My fishing has been marginal at best.  It has been very warm and the fish are staying in cool water down deep somewhere not really wanting to chase my offerings.  Nothing really to write about there that anyone would want to know anyway.   I did come up with a new (older) fish mobile to replace the one I had that was even older.  Guess I could have written about that, but, not the kind of stuff folks come to my blog to find out about really.  Maybe, I am tired or just getting lazy!

I apologize for being in this state of mind.  Maybe I will have a big ol' fish pull on my string and that will bring me out of this summer time funk I am in.  Who knows?
